At times I wonder whether we (psychologists or therapists) ever question
we are two faced people.

On the one hand we claim our empathy, active listening and warmth to our clients/patients.
Then we cast different judgments and accusations at one another in the work environment, let alone our personal lives.
The funny thing is,
we often ask the clients to keep reflecting on themselves,
but we are quick to defend ourselves.
Particularly when our work is just a job,
professionalism becomes our biggest shield.

I have come to realize that it is very difficult for me to be genuine at work.
It is a hard thing we ask others to show more respect and kindness.
‘Are you saying I’m not a nice person?’
I then question myself if then I learn to put a shield on myself.

It certainly takes great courage for me first be authentic about my limitations.
At times I become the target to be minimized and dismissed.
I wonder though whether this is a necessary process I am authentic with myself.
Values of respect and genuineness not only because of the happy relationships shared,
but they shine in particular in the reality
which is not so perfect.
