We look at this artwork and think,
‘How bizarre it looks!’
Then someone turns around and says,
‘Well this is my world.’

I keep reminding myself not to be
over confident to claim I know completely about another person.
Particularly when I am constantly required to formulate a patient’s case to different professionals and teams.

However, having rich knowledge and facts do not equate to a person having insight of someone’s actual experiences.
Patients work is one of my biggest learnings on humility.
Their individual experiences with mental health are much more than a drama transcript.
These are real-life blood and tears we talk about.

Patients’ reactions to me are the best examples to show how hard it is for them to trust someone, not just over a day, but a month, and even a year down the line as they still progress across the recovery pathway.

The key to trust is far more than having competence of what to do with another person.
The more I struggle, the more I learn to slow down my pace and attend to the patients first.
There is more time we need to sit with our hearts rather than just our heads.
